Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week in the Lake District

For the whole month of February, we’re celebrating all things apprenticeships!

That includes taking part in the National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) campaign #lookbeyond, showcasing the success of the Chartered Manager Degree, and how we are investing in our next generation’s future.

We’ll be highlighting the diversity and value apprenticeships offer to young people, employers, and communities across the Lake District. Plus, as part of the NAW campaign, we want to:

  1. encourage young people to look beyond the traditional routes and explore alternative pathways into a career
  2. ask employers within the Lake District, including LDHA members, to review their current recruitment programmes, sharing success stories from those who have introduced apprenticeships into their workplace.
  3. urge parents and teachers to look beyond the misconceptions surrounding apprenticeships and develop their personal understanding of the true value they bring; so that they may guide young people in making the best decisions for their futures.

We will showcase the impact the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship has had on Cumbrian young people exploring their career options. Developed in partnership with the University of Cumbria, the course aims to propel young people into careers in Tourism and Hospitality.

Since the program launched in September 2019, the students have developed real world experience while engaging in tutorials led by industry experts. Balancing work, study, and earning a fair wage.

This is a fantastic initiative that benefits all parties involved. While studying for their qualification, students benefit from paid work experience alongside traditional studying, while avoiding any university debts, and having a job secured when it comes to an end. Employers are particularly excited by this new degree as they can attract new talent, guarantee retainment, and develop their team into experienced, trustworthy employees.

During February, we’ll be celebrating the current cohort across our social media and website, working with the students to create profiles demonstrating their experience, background, and career goals moving forward. You can find our posts through #lookbeyond and #makingimpact on Twitter.

Plus, we’ll be highlighting those members who have employed students this year, helping them develop their skills, confidence, and experience in Tourism and Hospitality.

On the 6th February from 11am, 6th form students are invited to attend talks from experts across a range of industries, including Tourism and Hospitality. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, learn about alternative pathways, and perhaps even discover their dream career.

Ultimately, we can only continue to support apprenticeships with your support. If you’re a member and are curious about the benefits of enrolling current employees or hiring new employees through The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship, you can find out more through our website
