Real Lakes awards Real Heroes

We wanted to celebrate the real heroes in our community

Last year we embarked on our biggest giveaway yet as an organisation, collaborating together to offer over 30 prize giveaways to celebrate the Real Heroes in our communities that are making these lockdowns bearable for all of us.

Our members had offered stays in some of the best hotels in the Lake District, with views stretching into the national park, complemented by cruises on Lake Windermere, train rides, scenic tours, high wire adventures and distillery tastings from our award winning attractions.

Real Lake District experiences worthy of our Real Heroes.

We had nearly 800 entries nominating our fabulous healthcare professionals, postmen dressing up as superheroes as they did their rounds, neighbours offering support, bus drivers, teachers, supermarket workers, binmen, even kids nominating home-schooling parents!

All deserved recognition for their dedication to helping others, many taking time away from their own families to help and often doing so alongside their day job.  Reading the entries we were sorry we couldn’t award a prize to each and every one of them.

‘Together Stronger’ has always been the guiding principle to our Association, and this has also been the overriding tone of the nominations we received. Individuals supporting their family, neighbours and communities through this difficult time.

We’ve seen the same support throughout the association during the past year as members have been in regular contact sharing guidance on how to reopen safely, lobbying government for support, what plans we can make for the future and, of course, how we could play our part in recognising our Real Heroes.

Now our giveaway is complete, having awarded our last prizes just after Christmas, we find ourselves in lockdown again. All our hotels and attractions who gave their bedrooms and experiences so willingly have agreed to extend their prizes to 23rd December 2021.  So our Real Heroes have plenty of time to enjoy their breaks in the Lake District.

We may be temporarily closed to visitors but as soon as we get the go ahead we’ll be unbolting the doors, untying the boats and trying to get back into our uniforms!

Until then there are plenty of ideas and inspiration on our website so you know exactly where your next lake district holiday will be. www.reallakedistrict.co.uk
