In the Christmas Spirit: Supporting Carers in South Lakeland

This September The Westmorland Gazette launched a campaign in conjunction with local charity South Lakes Carers

The Westmorland Gazette's campaign is called ‘Give them a Break’.  The appeal aims to raise £20,000 to pay for up to 200 carers to have a one-night break away at a local hotel, including dinner and breakfast, or tickets for a local event or attraction.

This campaign has the potential to have an amazing impact on the many carers in the local area, South Lakes Carers alone supports more than 1,200 carers some of whom are as young as 6. At the LDHA our members recognised the importance of respite for these individuals and how ultimately we could help.

LDHA members have donated gifts with a value of over £1,400 to ensure some of our local carers have the chance to relax and take some time for themselves. Donations have included lunch for two, a nights stay for a family of four, multiple spa day packages, dinner for two, and tickets for a variety of tourist attractions including Windermere Lake Cruises and tours at Hawkshead Brewery.

The campaign is still open for donations, if you would like to find out more about the campaign or make a donation yourself please visit the Westmorland Gazette website: https://bit.ly/2Q5vgMa
